At the very least I hope Shane reads this review and it will stop him from doing a bait and switch and he holds himself accountable for the completion timeline he says he can provide his future clients before taking their deposits. Hopefully it's 5 star reviews from here on out for Meridian!

Renovations are never easy keep that in mind. Do your own research as to what you want because at the end of the day you as the consumer make the decisions. If you change flooring colour or paint and tiles you can’t expect your contractor to meet deadlines you keep changing.

On day 63 Shane left the job incomplete, because I expressed our families frustration and gave him 3 days to finish up the job. He said he felt abused and then sent an email saying he never gauranteed any timeline, lol, this is funny because Meridian advertises that staying within timeline is one of the things they make sure happens for their clients. We changed not a single thing, we actually removed some features we origionally had planned to try and get our house back faster!

I’m going to start by saying I’m writing this review because I did my research before putting up my $55000 on our lake house Reno. If I was the type of small minded person that just picked a concrator because he had the lowest bid then I guess it would be buyer beware situation! We met with Shane and 2 other crew members that ended up going the work on our property. We went over my wife’s wish list for the kitchen, dinning room and flooring also the master. We found Shane to be great to deal with and he gave us insight as to what would work in our property which we agreed to. Our Reno ran a week over the expected date due to our last minute add ons. Shane accommodated those which I found to be great. We went on holidays just at the end of the renovations and were unable to do the final walk through with Shane. Once we returned we opened the doors to our kitchen and my wife screamed “he did the racks.” I had no idea what she was talking about. Shane built her 2 custom feature plate racks for her mothers heirloom plates from England. We later called Shane to thank him for all the great work he did and set up a meeting to go over the next property we bought to Reno and flip.

I get things can go sideways on a reno, but there were no major hiccups on this job other than Shane giving us an unrealistic timeline. I’m calling Shane out on here publicly because he apologized to me at about day 30 for putting my family and I in the situation we were in, essentially admitting he lied, which is roughly when the daily $$ was agreed to, and then after that he continued to work half days or no days at all for the duration of the reno which was doing nothing to remedy the situation he said he was sorry about! Actions speak louder than words, he obviously wasn't that sorry for lying and having us live out of our garage.

I'm writing this review because although I clearly understand renovations do take time and that things can go wrong causing delays, that should not be a fall back or a plan for a renovation business owner to blatantly lie to a customer in order to get their work by promising unrealistic timelines. Which is what I realized, too late, happened to me.

Another important part of the agreement was staying within our budget. Unless you’re the type of person that likes to brag about how much you put up for a renovation, setting and staying within a budget is an important step before hiring any tradesmen. We were assured by Shane that we could return to a finished house in 17 days, and enjoy our, new to us, home within our set timeline and budget, so we gave our deposit in trust(2 months before the job began).

We met with the owner, Shane Harrison, 2 months before our reno began because he responed to a social media request of mine asking which local companies are cabable of doing hardwood flooring refinishing. He came out to our house several times prior to the reno commencing to make sure he had all the measurments and info he needed and he assured us he could have our requested renos completed(refinish hardwood floor and renovate kitchen) in 17 days.

The timeline was an important part of the agreement, since we had planned holidays for when the reno was to take place, we actually moved our origional holiday plans a week later to accomidate Shane's timeline, which we had no problem doing, since the obvious goal was for my family and I to be away while the renos took place. We did this becuase we weren't keen on the idea of living out of our garage without a kitchen for any length of time, especially since my wife was pregnant and my daughter was one. You know, not an ideal situation and certainly not one we would want to agree to for any length of time.

Shane ended up going over the agreed to timeline by 46 days! We lost full use of our house for a total of 63 days, and he still left the job incomplete! Obviously, only a very very small minded person would expect us, the paying customer, to put up with such a gross timeline miscalculation, so knowing he was in the wrong, and that us not being able to live and eat in our home would cost us extra money, Shane agreed to reduce the quoted price by a certain amount of $$ for each day he went over and at least try to compensate us monetarily for some living expenses. Clearly if the onus of the extened timeline was on us, he would not have agreed to try and compensate us with a daily $$, he knew he was in the wrong.
